BAS Property Consultants Limited are delighted to have been instructed by their client HMS Property Management Services Ltd to provide a package of services utilising all three elements of BAS: Building Consultancy, Architecture and Safety. Together, our team will design, procure, and project manage a scheme of external repairs and maintenance at one of the most prestigious and historic buildings in Southampton, South Western House. Opening in 1872, South Western House is predominantly known as a former hotel, which accommodated passengers of the Titanic before it set sail from Southampton in 1912. It has since been converted into flats, but retains its French Renaissance architectural features to the external façade and has Grade II listed building status. BAS Property Consultants Limited were instructed to obtain listed planning consent to maintain and repair the external façade, through to project management and completion of the works. The works are currently at pre-contract stage and are expected to commence in Autumn this year. The nature of the work to this historic building has required a collaborative and close working partnership with the client and design team. There was a need for a clear understanding of works required to put the building into repair, and strategic phasing of the works to ensure best value is achieved on behalf of the client.
